The Asiatic Society of Mumbai Literary Club ASM LitClub Programme “Celebrating Differences” on Monday, 11th November, 2019, at 5.30 p.m.

The Literary Club of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai is delighted to invite you to a programme on Monday, 11th November at 5.30 p.m. at the Durbar Hall of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai. The programme features Aparna Upadhyay Sanyal, a Pune-based author. She will address the theme “Celebrating Differences.”

About the author: Aparna recently released a book of short stories “Circus Folk and Village Freaks,” written in poetic verse format. As a committed thespian and passionately involved with theatre, she adapted three of her stories into short plays. Aparna is an articulate speaker, who, despite having lived through clinical depression in her adult life, found in theatre and the written word, vehicles to carve out her own unique paths.

Who is different? There will be a dramatised reading from the book, which talks about entrenched views of “otherness” in society. Perceptions of differences can have debilitating effects on the treatment meted out by so-called “normal” folk. Aparna will underpin the talk with her own self-understanding and understanding of people who are “different.” Can we accept differences, and celebrate them, will be the stuff of her presentation. This, too, is the underlying theme of her book: the urgent necessity for respect and acceptance regardless of “differences” and “uniqueness”, whether physical, intellectual or spiritual.

Do join us for a thought-provoking and uplifting evening.
Tea will be served at 5.00 p.m.
