N O T I C E

REPORT ON THE SCRUTINY OF THE NOMINATION PAPERS FOR THE ELECTION TO THE POST OF THE SCRUTINIZING COMMITTEE – One year 2026-2027 [7 Posts], AND MEMBERS OF MANAGING COMMITTEE for the period - 2026-2029 [5 posts]

1) Vide Notice dated 18^th August, 2026, the Asiatic Society of Mumbai invited nominations from members to fill-in the following posts:

1. Scrutinizing Committee for one year (2026-2027) [7 posts] and
2.  Managing Committee - for three years (2026-2029) [5 posts]

2) Thereafter, on Wednesday, 2^nd September 2026, the nomination papers for the post of Scrutinizing Committee (pink colour), numbered serially from 01 to 30; and the nomination papers for the post of Managing Committee (white colour), numbered serially from 01 to 50, were prepared by Office as per the schedule mentioned in the Notice dated 18^th August, 2026.  

3) The two empty nomination boxes (Scrutinizing Committee and Managing Committee) were sealed earlier on 2^nd September 2026, at 4:31 p.m. and kept ready for depositing filled nomination forms in the Society’s Office.  

4) The Nomination forms were issued in the printed format in the Society’s Office from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Thursday, 3^rd September 2026 to Saturday, 12^th September 2026 and on Tuesday, 15^th September 2026 up to 2:00 p.m. (excluding Sundays and public holiday).  The last date and time to file the nominations was Tuesday, 15^th September 2026, at 3:00 p.m.  

5a)  As per letter dated 15-09-2026 received from Mr. Dilip Karambelkar, Returning Officer, who had suggested for change in date for Scrutiny of Nomination Papers to 16-09-2026 due to one-and-a-half day Ganpati immersion on 15^th September 2026, a mail was sent to the members informing them that the Scrutiny of Nominations Papers will be held on Wednesday, 16th September 2026 at 3:00 p.m. instead of Tuesday, 15th September 2026.  It was also informed that as per the Notice of the AGM dated 18th August 2026, there will be NO CHANGE in the date and time for submission of the Nomination Forms and also there is NO CHANGE in withdrawal of Nomination Forms which is Thursday, 17th September 2026, till 3:00 p.m.  The two (2) boxes, containing the Nomination Forms for the post of Managing Committee (2026-2029) and for the post of Scrutinizing Committee (2026-2027) will be sealed at 3:00 p.m. on 15th September 2026. 

5b) Accordingly, at 4:15 p.m. on 15^th September 2026, the boxes containing the nomination papers were sealed. 

6) At the time of scrutiny on 16^th September, 2026, the seal fixed on 15^th September, 2026, was found undisturbed.  It was brought to the Durbar Hall in my presence and in the presence of the following two members at 3.30 p.m. and the undersigned opened the sealed Nomination Boxes for Scrutiny:

The Scrutiny was conducted by the Returning Officer, Mr. Dilip Karambelkar, and the Assistant Returning Officer, Adv. Mangesh Pawar, along with the Administration Team of the Society.  The results of scrutiny are as follows:

1. SCRUTINIZING COMMITTEE (2026-2027)  - 7 SEATS:

For the 7 seats in the Scrutinizing Committee, 08 nomination forms were issued by the Society’s office.  At the time of scrutiny, 07 nomination forms were received from 07 candidates.   The name of the candidates and the number of nomination forms filed by them are given below:

There are 07 candidates for the 07 posts of the Scrutinizing Committee for the year 2026-2027. 

Thereafter, the scrutiny of nomination forms for the posts of Managing Committee was taken up.

1. MANAGING COMMITTEE – 5 posts  [2026-2029 (5 posts)]:

For 05 posts of Managing Committee (2026-2029), 17 nomination forms were issued by the Society’s office.  At the time of scrutiny, 14 nomination forms were received from 10 candidates.  All nomination forms were found to be in order and valid. 

The names of the candidates and the number of nomination forms filed by each of them are as under:

Thus, there are 10 candidates contesting for 5 posts of Managing Committee for the period 2026-2029. 

7.      The final list of candidates will be released after the date of withdrawal i.e.  3.00 p.m. on Thursday, 17^th September 2026.

Note: 1) The last date for receipt of withdrawal letters is Thursday, 17^th September, 2026, at 3.00 p.m.  The Society’s Office shall receive withdrawal letters, and shall intimate the names of those candidate/s who have withdrawn their nomination/s to the Returning Officer and the Assistant Returning Officer immediately.  The withdrawals shall be displayed prominently on the Society’s Notice Board thereafter.
2) The used as well as the un-issued nomination papers were duly sealed, and the signatures of the Returning Officer were affixed thereon, and placed under lock and key in the Society’s safe-box. 
3) Copies of rough tally sheets used by the Returning / Assistant Returning Officer were handed over to the Society’s Office for records. 
4) A copy hereof is given to the Returning Officer / Assistant Returning Officer each.
